All About Fund Raising
![]() |
Fund raising is the term used to describe the methods non-profit organizations use to raise money. Organizations that often engage in fund raising include schools, churches, and rescue squads. Because these organizations are not for profit and provide valuable services for the community, they often must turn to the community for donations to stay afloat. This is where fund raising comes in.
There are many successful fund raising ideas that can help these organizations succeed. Many of them include bake sales, car washes, raffles, and auctions. If you're in the process of planning a fundraiser, here are some tips to make it great!
Fund raising is best when you have a lot of people to participate. This is of course easiest at large organizations like schools and churches. With lots of members ready to help, there are countless ways to raise money. A traditional idea is a bake sale. Everyone loves baked goods, especially for a good cause. Recruit the bakers in your organization to prepare their favorite sweet treats, then hold a sale. If baked goods aren't your thing, try a book sale. Members can donate their used books for the community to purchase.
Other fund raising options involve the sale of goods. Chocolates, gourmet cheeses, coffee, cookie dough and scented candles make great fundraisers. There are lots of companies out there that offer these items at good prices and include bright, glossy brochures and catalogs for potential customers to look through.
For a fund raising idea that's a little...risque, why not try a fun calendar? Examples of great calendars are swimsuit calendars that feature uninhibited members of your organization. A good example of this would be a 'beefcake' calendar from a fire department or rescue squad. You'd be amazed how many people will clamor to own one of these fun calendars!
Looking for an idea a bit more conservative? Then try a cookbook! Gather the best recipes from members of your school, church, or other organization and compile them into a cookbook that you sell to the community. People love a good cookbook, and even more so when it helps a worthwhile cause.
