Because churches are nonprofit organizations, it's often necessary for them to turn to fundraising to acquire the money they need. Luckily, there are many great ways to hold a successful church fundraiser. Are you looking for the perfect church fundraising idea? We've come up with some traditional and not so traditional ideas for great fundraisers.

One church fundraising idea is to sell items. Church members can be given brochures complete with order forms that they can use to sell merchandise to friends, family and peers. There are lots of companies that provide merchandise at great prices perfect for a church fundraiser. Here are some of the most popular and effective items to sell:

Or, your church could hold an event, like a bake sale. Raffles are also fantastic ways to raise money. Ask for donated items from the community that can serve as raffle prizes. Fine artwork, gift certificates to top stores or restaurants, and handmade gift baskets filled with goodies are all great examples of popular raffle prizes. Price your tickets based on the value of the prize. For smaller prizes, one dollar per ticket is fine. For big, valuable items, you can price up to five dollars per ticket.

Tired of the same old fundraiser? One good church fundraising idea is to hold an auction. You could ask church members to donate items or services for the auction, then allow the congregation or even outside community to bid. All proceeds, of course, would go to the fundraiser. This can be a great way to raise money for your church!

A car wash can also be a great church fundraising idea. After all, every car gets dirty. Choose a visible location easy for drivers to access. Use signs in vibrant colors that are easily read and eye-catching. Either charge for the car wash, or solicit donations.
